About Us
An Introduction to Stepping Stones Montessori from Ms. Margie Donovan
Stepping Stones Montessori, an American Montessori Society member school, was established in 1982 and has been serving the East Lansing area with quality Montessori education for 40 years. We continue to grow and develop as a school thanks to our supportive community made up of dedicated students, parents, staff, and alumni.
We serve children 18 months-12 years of age, providing developmentally appropriate curriculum the entire way. The child is respected with recognition for the individual and their abilities while we give them the tools to continue to grow and investigate the world.
At Stepping Stones Montessori School we provide an environment in which a child experiences the practical application of sensory-based and self-directed learning. The curriculum here is suited to meet the child’s physical, academic, emotional, and social needs.
Our Programs
Toddler
18 Months – 3 Years
Our Toddler program lays the foundations for children to thrive independently in an environment that is prepared specifically to assist them in their sensitivity to exploring the world around them. Here, play is considered a sacred work of the growing spirit of the toddler child as they navigate their community.
Primary
3 – 6 Years
The Primary program is where students are exposed to materials that will address sensory learning, using their sense of touch, taste, smell, sight, and hearing to take in all the information of the materials offered in the environment. During this 3-year cycle, students build upon skills that culminate in the elder year.
Elementary
6 – 12 Years
The Montessori Elementary curriculum places the vastness and wonder of the entire universe in the hands and imagination of the child. From history, mathematics, language, culture, science, geography, and the arts to navigating budding social situations, the Elementary program is built to accommodate the whole child.
